Notes from the ILG Conference: A Must-Read for Federal Contractors
The America’s Job Exchange team was in Las Vegas earlier this month exhibiting at the ILG National Conference. While there, I was able to attend many of the sessions and speak to customers and industry experts on compliance. Here are a few key takeaways that I wanted to share. Increase emphasis on hiring, retaining and promoting Veteran and Disabled employees. Patricia Shiu, Director of the OFCCP, states that the OFCCP’s goals are to improve recruitment of disabled and veteran candidates by federal contractors. In her keynote speech, Shiu highlighted the struggle of high unemployment rates in several groups, specifically among disabled job candidates[1]. Continue reading
Go Above and Beyond the Basic Requirements for OFCCP Compliance
In my last blog, OFCCP Mandatory Job Listing Requirements Simplified, I talked about the VEVRAA/JVA mandatory job listing requirements. Although the actual requirements are very simple there is an expectation from the OFCCP that Federal Contractors go beyond the basic job listing requirements. At the recent National ILG Conference, I had the opportunity to speak with a few OFCCP Compliance Officers. During my conversations, it was made clear that the OFCCP is encouraging contractors to reach out to local community organizations that cater to the Disabled and Veteran communities. It was also emphasized that while another great step is utilizing niche job boards that cater to these communities, like our partners Hire a Hero or AbilityLinks.org, a key component, in the opinion of those officers, was how much a company is reaching out to local community organizations. OFCCP Mandatory Job Listing Requirements Simplified
There has recently been a lot of chatter regarding VEVRAA/JVA mandatory job listing requirements. While many OFCCP requirements are complex, the mandatory job listing requirements are actually very simple. OFCCP clearly provides 2 choices for employers to meet these requirements (1) Listing with the state workforce agency job bank (website) or (2) listing with the “local employment service delivery system”. This includes the US Department of Labor’s network of “One Stop” offices, the local workforce agency office, local career center office, etc… Of course you must provide reporting and verification that listings have been sent appropriately.
