AJE Reporting Helps Clients Through Audits

Posted by Tyler Toby

It has become commonplace for clients to prove to federal auditors that they are successfully posting their jobs out to the appropriate state employment agencies.  This, of course, is the responsibility of the federal contractor – to make sure that their jobs reach the state workforce agencies.  And it is the job of the America’s Job Exchange Customer Care team to make sure the proper reporting is in place to assist AJE clients through audits.  With the aid of AJE’s comprehensive reporting, clients are sailing through audits.  Occasionally, the AJE Customer Care team assists the client directly in cases of large data requests. AJE Takes SHRM Conference By Storm!

What a fantastic Annual SHRM Conference this year. Even though clouds prevailed over San Diego for most of the time (known as “June Gloom” to the locals), there were many shining moments under the convention center roof. Read more…

There are experiences in life that can leave you in a state of shock.  One of those experiences is certainly the act of getting the axe!  Your hear those words – “We are going to have to let you go” and it starts in motion a wave of emotions – shock, denial, heartbreak, acceptance, next move.

Nailing the Interview

Posted by Tyler Toby

We all know that once you actually get an interview set up, you are 50% there.  They have noticed your resume in a growing stack of them and that is a very good thing!  You can say that the ball is in your court at this point.  All you have to do is walk in there and sell yourself.  That, of course, is easier said than done.  In this economy, they are going to put you through the marathon interview process.  You might walk in there and have 8 consecutive interviews to grind through – this is now the norm.  They want to grill you from every direction – why were you laid off from your last job or how did you do in college?  You have to try harder every step of the way through this grueling process.  You might lose sleep over it the night before but once you are in the thick of the interviews, sleep loss will not be a factor because the adrenaline rush will take over. The Counter Offer

Posted by Tyler Toby

Here’s the scenario, you are approached by another company with a job offer.  The most enticing thing about the offer is the money.  You go to your boss and tell him the story, and he immediately counters back with the same offer. Should you take the offer?  That is a tough question in any economy, but especially in the current one.  As they say—you have to obviously weigh the pros and cons to both scenarios.  One thing is for sure –to even receive an offer for a new job, you have admitted to yourself that perhaps it is time for a change.  This alone does not bode well for the success of a counter offer.  If you take the counter offer, will you find yourself in the same state of mind just a short time down the road?  This is really the crux of the dilemma.  Each career decision we make can have a major impact on where we ultimately end up in the future.  If you look back at these turning points in your life, you will obviously see the path that you have taken, but you will also see the alternative path that you could have taken.  In retrospect, you can now decide which path was the best move (hopefully it is the one you are currently on). “Undercover Boss” Right on Target

Posted by Tyler Toby

I watched a new show last night called “Undercover Boss”.  It was a fascinating look on how big companies work.  Last night’s episode focused on the company, Waste Management, and its president, Larry O’Donnell.  Larry went undercover to do some of the entry-level jobs in the company, from picking up waste at a landfill to cleaning out portable toilets.  He met with everyday workers that only saw Larry as a new recruit –not the president of the company.  What Larry uncovered was more than the tons of waste that WM deals with on a daily basis.  Larry discovered how important these front line workers really are to the success of the company. First Month of 2010 Almost in the Books

Posted by Tyler Toby

As we round out the first month of a new decade, what have we learned about getting out from behind, as I like to call it, this “Great Recession?”

One thing is for sure – not much has changed with the unemployment outlook – we are still staring down a double digit unemployment rate, with many major cities watching a rise in the number of unemployed per job opening.  However, what we do see is stabilization beginning to occur in the job market. SHRM 2009 Reflects the Changing Times

Posted by Tyler Toby

It feels like 2002 at SHRM…..

Missing this year:

  • Booths
  • Attendance
  • CEOs
  • Parties
  • Big splash by any one company

Present at show:

  • Reflection
  • Pause
  • Ingenuity
  • Opportunity
  • Desperation, yet with hope

I just returned from SHRM 2009 (the big HR show) in New Orleans, and in one instance the career industry seems to be experiencing a moment of pause due to current economic conditions — yet at the same time, you can see the wheels turning in the minds of the leading brands. Read more…
