The October jobs report last Friday showed a slight improvement in unemployment, with a jobless rate of 9 percent, versus three consecutive months stalling at 9.1 percent. The Labor Department reported 80,000 nonfarm jobs added last month. While below expectations of 95,000, August jobs estimates were adjusted to 102,000, more than previously reported. Read more…

These are just some of the steps the Obama Administration has taken to ensure future employment for veterans returning from engagements in Iraq, Afghanistan and other theatres of war:
- On October 19, First Lady Michelle Obama announced that the American Logistics Association (ALA) and their 270 affiliate companies have committed to hiring 25,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013. This commitment is part of the First Lady’s and Dr. Jill Biden’s Joining Forces initiative to support veterans and military families. The ALA’s commitment will fulfill a quarter of the President’s challenge to the private sector to hire or train 100,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013.

For the second month, the unemployment rate remained at a standstill, rising by a .1 percentage point to 9.2 percent in June and adding only 18,000 jobs in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Lackluster job gains continues to contribute to concerns for an economic recovery, with gains well below the gains made from February through April of 215,000 per month. Read more…

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its February unemployment numbers today which shows some signs of improvement to the economy.
The unemployment rate improved to 8.9% in February, from last month’s 9.0%. And the jobs outlook improved with the economy gaining 192,000 jobs in the month. If you look at the past several months, the unemployment rate has improved by a percentage point since a high of 9.8% in November. Read more…

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) just released January employment results. Unemployment fell by 0.4 percentage points, brining unemployment down to 9 percent. The BLS reported that while unemployed persons decreased by 600,000 to 13.9 million, the labor force remained unchanged. Read more…

This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the employment figures for the month of December, and there are encouraging signs for job seekers. The unemployment rate fell to 9.4 percent in December, and nonfarm payroll employment increased by 103,000. Since December 2009, payroll employment has risen by 1.1 million, which is an average of 94,000 per month. The main industries where December job growth occurred were in hospitality and health care.
