Unemployment Rate Stagnates at 9.2%; With Only 18,000 Jobs Added in June

For the second month, the unemployment rate remained at a standstill, rising by a .1 percentage point to 9.2 percent in June and adding only 18,000 jobs in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Lackluster job gains continues to contribute to concerns for an economic recovery, with gains well below the gains made from February through April of 215,000 per month. Read more…

February Unemployment Rate Improves to 8.9%, Economy Gains 192,000 Jobs

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its February unemployment numbers today which shows some signs of improvement to the economy.

The unemployment rate improved to 8.9% in February, from last month’s 9.0%. And the jobs outlook improved with the economy gaining 192,000 jobs in the month.  If you look at the past several months, the unemployment rate has improved by a percentage point since a high of 9.8% in November. January Employment Numbers, a Sign of a Positive Trend?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) just released January employment results. Unemployment fell by 0.4 percentage points, brining unemployment down to 9 percent. The BLS reported that while unemployed persons decreased by 600,000 to 13.9 million, the labor force remained unchanged. Read more…

Optimism For A Brighter Job Market Continues With Today’s Numbers

This morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the employment figures for the month of December, and there are encouraging signs for job seekers. The unemployment rate fell to 9.4 percent in December, and nonfarm payroll employment increased by 103,000. Since December 2009, payroll employment has risen by 1.1 million, which is an average of 94,000 per month. The main industries where December job growth occurred were in hospitality and health care. Modest growth in private sector offset by the decline in public sector jobs! When will hiring pick up?

Nation’s unemployment rate remained steady at 9.6% and the number of unemployed workers remained mostly unchanged at about 15 million in September. Overall nonfarm payroll employment edged down (-95,000) as employment shrunk in the public sector (-159,100) due to unexpected loss of state and local government jobs and expected reduction of temporary census workers. While the entire nation continues to endure one of the most severe unemployment scenarios, the mood at the 74th annual conference of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) is quite upbeat. This conference is the largest gathering of state administrators of employment services, several other related programs provided through public funds. In a nutshell, it is the forum of ideas exchange and learning between the practitioners, and a platform for the development of private and public relationships to address the critical needs of the America’s workforce, and in particular, provide for the short term needs of potential and displaced workers needing immediate help to weather the recession. The US Labor Department’s New Tool

At America’s Job Exchange, we know that hiring qualified candidates with disabilities is an important responsibility of employers. Last month, the United States Department of Labor unveiled a new tool, the online Disability Nondiscrimination Law Advisor, which will help employers quickly and easily determine their responsibilities under the federal disability nondiscrimination laws that apply to their business. This online tool asks users to answer a few relevant questions about variables such as the size of their organization and whether they receive federal financial assistance. Based on these responses, the advisor generates a customized list of federal disability nondiscrimination laws that would apply, as well as information about employers’ responsibilities under them.
