So, after seeing that in three days, I’ve had 100 twitter updates, I decided to redo how we post our daily jobs from around the country. I’m going to compile them all into a single job post, and send out a twitter link to that blog post. So, without further ado, here are today’s jobs, which come to you from Harrisburg, PA and the surrounding area.
As most people know, college graduations are less than two months away at this point. A new class of graduates is soon going to be entering the job market, trying to find a way to land a job and put their skills to use. They sure picked a difficult time to graduate from college, right in the midst of the worst recession in decades.
Fox Business News wrote up a good article about this next class of job seekers. The overall message? Don’t give up, don’t get discouraged, don’t be too picky.
Well, another Monday has come by, and it’s time to start up that job search again (if you were even able to stop over the weekend at all). It can be disheartening to go through looking for a job week after week, month after month, and sometimes we need something to keep our heads up. I’m going to try to help you out with that. Every Monday, I’m going to post a funny video about job hunting (no promises that it will be useful) for your enjoyment.

According to this article in Bloomberg, posted on Friday, Michigan has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Now, as a former resident of that state, and with family there, that’s personally disturbing for me, so I’ve picked Michigan as today’s state to focus the job search on. I did a blanket search for jobs in Detroit Michigan, and came back with 119 pages worth of results. Not too shabby. Here’s the first page, but I’d encourage you to do your own search!

In the summer of ‘07, we launched America’s Job Exchange. Our goal was to continue the legacy of the pioneering career site – America’s Job Bank. AJB, as it was commonly referred to, was the first national job site built to help job seekers, especially those unemployed or disadvantaged, to find job search information free of cost. Employers could also post job openings free at AJB, which was sponsored by the US Department of Labor and built by NaviSite. Reading through some job market news this morning, and I came across this article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Area Jobless Rate Doubles in 1 Year. The title is fairly self-explanatory; last March, Atlanta’s unemployment rate was 4.1%; now it is 9.3%, more than double. Just to put that into perspective for you, that’s more than 480,000 people unemployed, assuming Atlanta has a population of around 5.2 million (why are those sorts of numbers often left out of these stories?) Well, the article made me curious, so I did a blanket search on America’s Job Exchange for jobs in Atlanta. It came back with five pages of results.
If anyone in Atlanta is reading this, here’s the first page of results that I got back. Hopefully one of them fits with somebody’s qualifications out there.

Well, I thought to start off our job hunting journey together, I would let you all know what about.com has to say about the job search, what the basics are, and where to start. Alison Doyle wrote a great article about Job hunting, and the steps you should take to find that perfect job. As you probably guessed, I work for America’s Job Exchange, as a writer and online marketer. When you find us on twitter, facebook, linkedin and all of those various social media sites, chances are, it’s me. I’m not a recruitment expert, or a hiring manager, or anything like that, so I’m not going to be spending my time on this blog trying to give you advice. Instead, I’m going to do what I’m good at, which is finding things online. I’m going to work hard to find the best ready-made resources for job seekers and employers alike and gather them together on this blog. I’m going to make a pledge that I’ll probably regret later, but I will post every day. And I’m not just going to give you a link. I’ll read all of these things and give you a summary here, so you know what you’re getting into.
